Dr. Sam Smith

Dr. Sam Smith received his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University and graduated from Ross University with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1997. While at NC State, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology. Dr. Smith has more than 16 years of experience in veterinary dentistry, with training from boarded veterinary dentists, oral surgeons and continuing education programs. His special interests include raptor rehabilitation, advanced dentistry and orthopedic surgery, including the TightRope CCL technique.

Dr. Stephen Anderson

Dr. Stephen Anderson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University and continued on at NCSU to graduate with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After graduation, Dr. Anderson moved to the Florida Keys to gain more hands-on experience in exotic animal medicine at the Marathon Veterinary Hospital and spent his free time volunteering his services for the Sea Turtle Hospital, Wild Bird Center and Marine Mammal Rescue Team. After a couple of years in the Keys, Dr. Anderson moved on to bring exotic animal medicine and veterinarian services to the Wilmington, NC area. He is also the area veterinarian for the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, the UNCW Marine Mammal Stranding Program and Southern Reptile Rescue, as well as Sky Watch Bird Rescue, the Wilmington chapter of Phoenix Landing and the Wilmington House Rabbit Society. His special interests include exotic animal medicine (including wildlife), surgery and oncology.

Dr. Natalie-Anne Reinhart
Dr. Natalie-Anne Reinhart, originally from South Africa, moved to Wilmington in 1994 with her family. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from UNCW in 2005. Dr. Reinhart attended St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies and attended the University of Tennessee for her clinical year of veterinary school- graduating in 2010. Dr. Reinhart joined us in June of 2016 and has made herself at home here. She is also the appointed veterinarian for the Ruffian Foundation Cat Sanctuary. She’s an avid reader and loves to travel. Natalie-Anne shares her home with her husband, Michael, snowshoe cat Emmy, Khan a Pitbull, and Blake the Cocker Spaniel.
Dr. Carrie MaGrann
Dr. Carrie MaGrann was born and raised in Medford Lakes, New Jersey and spent many of her summer days at the shore with her family. Growing up she always saw herself working with animals, big & small. She has an undergraduate degree in biology from Dartmouth College where she also played 4 years of Division I field hockey. After college, she spent several years working as a veterinary technician in Kaneohe, Hawaii and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. MaGrann graduated with the highest honors from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she spent her first 3 years of training in St. Kitts and completed her clinical year at NC State University. Dr. MaGrann spent many months with Paws & Claws Animal Hospital as an intern during 2015 where little did she know she had found her future veterinary family. She has a passion for all aspects of veterinary medicine and has special interests in dentistry and behavior.  The types of animals she has worked with range from dogs & cats, to dolphins, leopards, and chimpanzees. On her days off, she loves to run, surf, SUP, and of course spend time with her pitbull, Laka.

Office Management


Courtney is a NC native, born and raised in Williamston. She moved to Wilmington to attend UNCW, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree and has remained a Wilmington resident since. Courtney shares her house with dogs Kinley (pictured), Lexi, and cat America. Outside of the office, Courtney is an avid cyclist and enjoys any activity involving the pups.

Claudia was born and raised here in Wilmington and can't imagine living anywhere else. She has been working in the veterinary field for 7 years and has been at Paws & Claws since day one. Claudia is currently sharing her home with her husband, many sea creatures & dog Reece. Outside of work, Claudia enjoys the thrill of amusement parks and roller coasters.

A Wilmington native, Brandon began working at Paws & Claws Animal Hospital in the mid-summer of 2014 as a kennel technician. Since then he has moved up to the front desk of the hospital still interacting with clients and his favorite patients. Other than being the tallest & almost youngest employee, he is the creative mind behind running our Paws & Claws Facebook Page and website. Brandon shares his home with his girlfriend Katie, their canine daughter Topanga, and a leopard gecko named Deenoh! Outside of work, Brandon enjoys photography, driving his beloved car, and traveling.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Tiffany has been married to her middle school sweetheart, Dameon, for 15 years; together they have 3 daughters, Kaylee, Allison, and Carah. She is a recent graduate of Cape Fear Community College, of which she proudly graduated with highest honors. Her area of interest is sociology, and she hopes to continue her education in the near future. She joined the Paws & Claws family in November 2016 and plans to stay a part of the wonderful family for many years to come as her heart remains working with animals and their owners. She is proud to be a mom to her fur baby Charlotte, a 4-year-old Great Dane. She has experience working in the veterinary field dating back to her high school years, and she thoroughly enjoys the interaction with clients and their pets. In her free time, she loves to shop with her daughters, fish with her family on their boat, and walk Carolina and Wrightsville beaches. 
Krystin is originally from Long Island, NY but moved to North Carolina when she was ten years old. In the past, she worked at a doggie daycare facility, but was introduced to the Paws & Claws family in the early fall of 2017. Krystin has always been driven to take care of animals - even as a small child. She has recently began shadowing our doctors and other assistants to help further her knowledge of the veterinary field. Krystin hopes to soon enroll in an online program to work towards being a skilled veterinary assistant as well. Outside of the hustle & bustle of the reception desk, Krystin spends her free time practicing yoga. She is a certified 200 Hour RYS Yoga instructor & loves teaching others how to incorporate yoga into their daily lives. She also enjoys hiking & exploring trails, spending time with her boyfriend Chris, and getting kisses from her "furchild" Jack. One of her favorite things to wear is a smile and you will never see her without one!
Registered Veterinarian Technicians

Gaby, RVT
Gaby was born and raised in San Salvador, El Salvador where she received a degree in Zootechnics and became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Universidad Salvadoreña Alberto Masferrer in 2010. In 2011, Gaby moved to North Carolina with her husband where she has been working as a veterinary assistant. Joining the Paws & Claws family in August 2016, Gaby has recently passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination and has achieved the Registered Veterinarian Technician degree. In the future she would like to pursue the transfer and certification of a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) in North Carolina. In her free time, Gaby enjoys spending time with her family, cat Sirius, painting, drawing, and spending time in the outdoors.
Veterinary Assistants 

Kristina moved from Atlanta, GA to the Wilmington area in July 2015. Kristina has been with us since November 2015. She is a wife; and mother of two beautiful children. Kristina has worked in the veterinarian field for 20+ years and mostly enjoys seeing ill patients make full recoveries and get back to their old selves. Other than her husband and kids, Kristina shares her house with six furbabies, Bodhi, Duke, Lucy, Stoney, Costello, and Shiloh. She also has a bearded dragon named Rango and a betta fish named Kiedis. The best part of Wilmington to her is the beach, the mossy trees, and the downtown vibe.


Pictured here is Alex and her bottle-raised puppy, Alice. Alex joined our practice in July of 2013. She has a Bachelor's in Business with a focus in Equine Studies from St. Andrews Presbyterian College. While obtaining her degree, Alex had the opportunity to take several extensive large-animal medical courses that were intended for pre-veterinary school students. It was during her college career that Alex decided to stay in animal medicine. She also has experience in small animal emergency medicine from her time working as an Assistant at Animal Emergency Trauma. When she isn't working at our practice, you can find her training her horse, Joker, for horse shows in the area and riding him out on the beach.

Devyn grew up in North Carolina and plans to remain a North Carolina resident. Devyn has two fur babies who mean the world to her. Champ, her 4 year old cat, who thinks he's king of the castle and loves to cuddle. Then there's Darcy, her puppy, who never meets a stranger and loves giving out kisses. She attended college at Cape Fear Community College for two years, taking medical classes. She plans to finish school when a vet tech program becomes available at Cape Fear or through an online program. Devyn started in our kennel two years ago where she developed a desire to become an assistant here. Devyn was promoted to vet assistant in January of 2015 and could not imagine doing anything else. This isn't just a job, for her this is a passion.

Nicole, originally from Anchorage, Alaska, and became a North Carolinian when her family relocated while she was three. Nicole has been in some capacity of veterinary medicine since 2002, and she has over two years of experience working in emergency and specialty medicine. While Nicole has primarily worked with small companion animals, she has a great deal of experience caring for, and handling, birds of prey. Nicole’s knowledge of animal care continues to expand and she aspires to become a licensed veterinary technician. Nicole was lucky enough to marry her high school sweetheart and together they have two amazing boys. Nicole and her family share their home with a variety of five dogs: Madison, Maisy, Jada, Pooh Bear, Mossy and one cat, Catness. When Nicole is not working, her time is devoted to her family and their various activities. Nicole enjoys watching NASCAR, cheering on the Panthers, hunting, relaxing on the beach, and above all, spending time with her family and friends. 


Sarah is a North Carolina native that joined our practice in July of 2016. She has been employed in the veterinary field for 10 years and attended the Veterinary Technology program at Des Moines Area Community College. She lives in Wilmington with her husband, two children, and cat. When not at work, she enjoys developing minimalist interior design and playing outdoors with the kids.  
Straight out of early college, Morgan knew where her heart was meant to be - in the veterinary profession. Morgan has worked in animal hospitals for three years now doing everything from reception, to being an assistant on the treatment floor, to taking care of animals in the kennel. Morgan has a total of ten dogs, none of which she would dare pick as her favorite. In her spare time, she loves hanging out with friends and working on her family's farm.
Jessica has lived in Wilmington her whole life, she enjoys going to the beach with her sister and her son in the summer time. When not at the beach on the weekends, she enjoys reading, crocheting, watching tv, or just spending time with her family. Jessica resides in Hampstead with her husband, her son, her dog "Otis" and her newly acquired cat "Galaxy". She is a graduate of Miller-Motte College with a Diploma in Medical Billing and Coding as well as an Associates in Electronic Medical Records. Shortly after graduating, she realized she really wanted to follow her dream of working with animals. Her goal is to soon start classes at CFCC to become a registered veterinary technician. Jessica has only been with us for a short while, but her smile & bubbly personality radiates through our office from handling phone calls to taking care of your pets.

Alex is from Long Beach, NY and moved to Wilmington in 2013 to attend UNCW. She graduated in 2017 with a degree in Biology and minor in Neuroscience. In college she was a member and treasurer of the UNCW Equestrian team. Alex realized her dram of becoming a veterinarian in high school and just applied to veterinary school. She has spent countless hours shadowing equine veterinarians &  has been working as an assistant in small animal practices for close to two years now. When studying abroad in Queensland, Australia, Alex spent her free time volunteering at a local zoo and had the opportunity to work with various native Australian species. Alex lives with her very fluffy cat, Milo, and outside of work you can find her at the barn jumping horses, scuba diving, or body surfing at the beach!
Kennel Assistants

Janaé moved from Orange County, California to Wilmington 12 years ago. When she moved here she began working at a local animal hospital for about five years, then transitioned to working at a boarding facility for four years. Nothing brings her more joy than happy dogs greeting me first thing in the morning. Janaé married her high school sweetheart, Carl, and has two daughters, Ashleigh and Krysten. She shares her home with a small zoo of pets which consists of three English Cream Miniature Dachshunds: Sebastian, Cali & Bentley and one red coated dachshund, Brooklyn. Annnnddd then there's Binx; who's our daughter Krysten's cat who somehow managed to stay behind when she moved out. Janaé, who's cheerful face you'll see whizzing around the kennel and office, loves spending time with her family outside of work.
Megan came to Paws and Claws in early May 2017 as a kennel attendant and receptionist. She previously worked at Petco for 5 years, first as a reptile specialist, then a Companion Animal Department Manager, followed by a Dog and Cat Department Manager. She has 3 wonderful cats at home named Keira, Shiloh, and Quinn, as well as a 7 ½’ long Colombian Red Tail Boa named Primrose. In her spare time, Megan devotes much of her time to rehabilitating and releasing orphaned wildlife, predominately Virginia Opossums. She loves her job and is thrilled to be part of the Paws and Claws family!
